If you like adventure then the high ropes course at Gunstock Adventure Center in New Hampshire is for you! Remember we’ve been to the Killington adventure center and we loved it so we were excited to try this one. Besides the high ropes course, Gunstock also offers a huge amount of other activities. They have a mountain coaster, rock climbing walls, water balloon toss, zipline, stunt jump, as well as trampoline jumps. There are even little bikes and a playground for the younger kids.
Clint grew up going to Gunstock Mountain for skiing every year. His family had a house in town and would go up most weekends. So for him to bring the girls to Gunstock is a real treat. Gunstock, like a lot of other ski resorts, has added an adventure center. We decided to go for a weekend and check out what Gunstock had to offer. Well, there is a ton.
Kid’s High Ropes Course
This is a great feature of this adventure park. They have a kid’s course and an adult course. We took the girls on their ropes course first which worked out great. The girls went through the course together and encouraged each other on different obstacles. Some of the obstacles were more challenging than others.
There were several things I liked about this course. One is that it isn’t too high off the ground. Second is that the obstacles varied nicely. The third is the course has a zipline. Although they were a little unsure of the zipline, they both really like it. In fact, at the end of the course, they both wanted to go through again, immediately. We had them wait until we went through our course. Altogether they went on their course three times. They didn’t just like it; they loved it!
High Ropes Course
For starters, this high ropes course is in the trees. This was very cool because you were in nature. For me, since I don’t like heights, I thought it would be worse. That wasn’t the case. In fact, it was easier. However, I have to admit I focused more on getting through each obstacle than on the ground. I think that might be the key. Either way, I didn’t have any issues with fear. Instead, I was excited and really enjoying myself.
The adult’s course has five sections. You can exit after each section if it’s not for you. Clint did all five I, however, only did three. Not because I wanted to stop, although the course gets harder as you go along. No, I stopped because even though the girls went through the kid’s course first, they were itching to go again. So I bowed out and took the girls to their course.
The adult’s course has some obstacles that are harder than the kid’s course which you would expect. For me, there were two obstacles I found challenging. The tunnel, because it was awkward to go through. I couldn’t really sit up so I was crouched forward but it was doable. The other obstacle that I had a difficult time with was the Tarzan rope. This isn’t because of anything to do with the rope or obstacle but because I really have no upper body strength. This is one of the obstacles you go through in the practice course that is low to the ground. I fail the Tarzan rope then so thankfully on the obstacle in the trees I was able to bypass it and do a tight rope run instead.
Mountain Coaster
Gunstock Adventure Center also has a mountain coaster. Their mountain coaster is also through the trees but there really isn’t a place to view the fun until the end. That said, it does go up high. In fact, if you are just looking at the track in front of you, you’d think you were going up 10 stories. Who knows maybe you do go up that high. There are two corkscrews in the coaster that are a lot of fun. You can take them at full speed and Clint does or you can break some. It’s really up to you. There are also some nice turns and loops on this coaster.
Other activities at Gunstock Adventure Center
There are a lot of other activities to enjoy as well. They have two tall climbing walls, below, and one smaller ‘rock-like’ wall (picture at the beginning). Just the climbing walls alone are awesome and can keep kids busy for a while. I was impressed with all the ride on bikes and toys for the little kids.
It is really nice that they also have a low ropes course for younger kids. It may be low to the ground but the kids enjoyed it all the same. There is traditional playground equipment next to the lake if your kids want that. They also offer kayaks and paddleboats to take out. I especially love that the paddleboats have sun awnings. Just a nice extra touch.
In both the high ropes courses, there are zip lines. However, if you just want to take a zip line, they offer that as well. You zip line across a couple of mountain peaks and then down to the high ropes course base. From the peak to the base is over 3/4 of a mile long! They say you can reach speeds of 70mph, thankfully you can also control your speed. I’m not sure if I would like to go that fast or not. I’ll have to try next time we go.

It really was. I can’t wait til the kids are old enough to go on the adult course. However, they might wait for it since it is much higher off the ground.
They have the high ropes activities in Northern Minnesota. Now I have to go check it out. This looks like fun!
